Pokemon GO Players Have Chance to Get Special Bonuses, But There's a Catch
Pokemon GO players can get some special bonuses in-game to celebrate the release of the Pokemon Trading Card Game Charizard ex Super-Premium Collection, but there's a catch. Pokemon GO fans will need to go to a specific store in order to get their in-game prize.
Since Pokemon GO is a game revolving around a player's activity and location, it makes a lot of sense to pair up with physical locales to host giveaways and special promos. This giveaway also bears a resemblance to some of those that were held for the mainline Pokemon games back when they were available on mobile systems like the Nintendo 3DS.
Now, Pokemon GO fans can get a set of Charmander, Charmeleon, and Charizard stickers, courtesy of a Pokemon Trading Card Game promotion. From October 4 to October 25, 2024, players can go to a local Best Buy, GameStop, or Target retailer in the US to get their prize. Once at a participating store, players just need to start up the app and spin the associated PokeStop. Players in Canada can go to their local GameStop or Toys R Us, while Australian players can visit an EB Games. The promotion has not mentioned additional locations outside these areas.
Pokemon TCG Charizard ex Super-Premium Collection Details
Of course, the hope is that while Pokemon GO players are visiting stores, they'll check out the TCG release. This particular set is great for Charizard fans, as the main highlight is a Charizard figure with translucent fire effects that can hold a Pokemon card for players to show their favorite off. The set also includes a collection of cards, including a guaranteed foil promo card of Charizard ex, 2 foil cards of Charmander and Charmeleon, 10 Pokemon Trading Card Game booster packs, and a code for Pokemon TCG Live mobile game. The set is expected to cost $79.99 and will arrive in early October, so interested fans may want to visit their local stores in early in the promo period.
While some fans haven't been thrilled with Pokemon GO gradually reducing or phasing out the number of activities one can engage in remotely, it seems Niantic will keep moving in that direction for the foreseeable future. While it might be disappointing for those who can't get to one of these stores, the Charmander-line stickers won't have any serious impact on gameplay, so there aren't any battle or catching advantages being lost here. Stickers can be attached to gifts in Pokemon GO, but provide no benefits to the gifter or giftee beyond a special aesthetic touch.
