Geopolitical jitters hit crypto: Bitcoin breaks $100k, Ethereum below $2.5k

Published: 2025-06-24 11:35:46 am

Bitcoin (BTC) fell below the psychologically important $100,000 mark for the first time in 45 days, following US military strikes on three nuclear sites in Iran, escalating tensions between Israel and Iran. The sudden development triggered widespread panic across global crypto markets, leading to over $1 billion in liquidations, largely from overleveraged long positions.

The sharp sell-off extended to major altcoins, with Ethereum (ETH) dropping below the $2,500 mark amid heightened investor caution. Analysts anticipate persistent volatility as geopolitical risks and fragile sentiment continue to weigh on the market.

At last check, Bitcoin was trading at $101,536.97, down 1.26%, with a 24-hour trading volume of $62.46 billion, fluctuating between $98,286.21 and $102,991.74 in the past 24 hours.

Market View

Riya Sehgal, Research Analyst at Delta Exchange, attributed the decline to escalating geopolitical tensions, warning of a short-term downtrend and a possible bear flag formation. Meanwhile, Edul Patel, Co-founder and CEO of Mudrex, expressed optimism, highlighting fresh signs of market recovery, including long-term holder accumulation and supportive moves like Texas’s Strategic Bitcoin Reserve bill.

“Historically, such market activity suggests proximity to a market bottom and potential trend reversal,” Patel noted.

Key Levels to Watch:

BTC faces immediate resistance at $105,400, with support around $100,000, and further at $98,000–95,000.

ETH finds resistance at $2,260–2,280, with support levels at $2,120, followed by $2,050–2,000.

Meanwhile, altcoins, particularly small caps and AI tokens, registered sharp declines of 17–20% this week. Despite a 9-day BTC ETF inflow streak, overall market momentum remains weak amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainty.
