Indian Healthcare Firm Uses VR Training to Bridge Knowledge Gaps

MediSim VR has launched Gujarat’s first virtual reality (VR) training lab at KD Hospital, Ahmedabad, aimed at advancing the skills of healthcare professionals through immersive learning experiences. The lab, a pioneering initiative in the region, will provide both students and existing professionals with access to cutting-edge XR hardware and software, allowing for safe, repeated practice in medical procedures.

Innovative Training for Healthcare Workers

Dr. Adith Chinnaswami, Co-Founder of MediSim VR, emphasized the significance of this development, stating, "Establishing Gujarat’s first VR skill training lab in partnership with KD Hospital is a significant milestone for us. This facility will enhance skill development for healthcare students and professionals, offering hands-on experience that builds confidence and expertise in medical procedures."

The launch of the VR training lab is part of MediSim VR's broader efforts to lead the way in immersive healthcare education across India. The company provides VR environments and AI-driven assessment tools to prepare healthcare workers for real-world challenges.

Bridging the Gap in Healthcare Education

The new lab was officially inaugurated by Rushikesh Patel, Gujarat’s Health & Family Welfare Minister, who highlighted its potential to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in the medical field. The facility has been designated as a regional Center of Excellence (CoE), allowing it to serve KD Hospital’s healthcare students and professionals, as well as extend its resources to nurses throughout Gujarat.

Dr. Anuja Desai, Executive Director of KD Hospital, noted, "By integrating this advanced simulation training technology into our curriculum, we are not only enhancing our students’ learning experience but also establishing a training hub for healthcare professionals across Gujarat. As a Center of Excellence, the MediSim VR Lab will play a crucial role in upskilling nursing students and preparing them as future healthcare leaders."

Growing Demand for XR in Healthcare

The establishment of the MediSim VR lab coincides with a significant surge in the adoption of XR technologies in healthcare. A recent report by Dimension Market Research projects that the global market for augmented and virtual reality in healthcare will grow from $3.7 billion in 2024 to $19.6 billion by 2033, reflecting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20.2 percent.

North America currently leads this market, accounting for 51.1 percent of the revenue in 2024, driven by increased technology adoption, substantial R&D investments, and strong government support.

MediSim VR’s new training lab is poised to play a key role in this growing sector, setting new standards for healthcare education and training in Gujarat and beyond.
