Sandhya Devanathan, Vice President and Head of India at Meta, said at the Indian Gaming Convention 2024 in New Delhi today that the country will have 700 million gamers by 2028.
She said "India is an essential part of Meta's global gameplay strategy, and we've been committed to promoting growth and creativity within our development community here"

Devanathan also stressed the economic importance of India's digital endeavors, which include gaming.
She believes that these efforts will help transform India into a $8 trillion economy, with $1 trillion coming from digital projects such as gaming.
This expansion is predicted to generate over 300,000 jobs in a variety of industries, including brands, start-ups, and content creators.

Devanathan underlined the need for advertising for developers and creators trying to expand their enterprises, particularly in places like India.
"Our platforms provide the tools needed to reach a global audience and grow sustainably through effective monetization," claimed her.
Prior to her present position, Devanathan supervised Meta's gaming segment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, one of the company's major verticals worldwide.

During her address, Devanathan also discussed how crucial gaming will be in impacting consumer behavior, particularly online buying.
She highlighted out, "200 billion reels are played daily across Facebook and Instagram, and 20 crores (200 million) people shop online in India—a number expected to grow significantly."

Meta Quest 3: A Great Game Changer for Indian Developers
Devanathan expressed optimism about Meta's Quest mixed reality headsets for Indian developers.
Although these devices are not available in India, she views them as a significant opportunity.
"Meta Quest 3 symbolizes an immense chance for independent developers to create thrilling games for global audiences," she assured.
This comes after Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg showed the first functioning prototype of its augmented reality glasses, Orion, as well as an entry-level edition of its mixed reality headsets, the Quest 3S.
