Australian Entrepreneur Uses ChatGPT To Create Customised Vaccine To Cure Dog's Cancer

Paul Conyngham, an Australian tech entrepreneur, revealed that he leveraged artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT to develop a personalized cancer treatment for his rescue dog, Rosie. The eight-year-old Staffy–Shar Pei mix had been diagnosed with mast cell cancer, with large tumors forming on her leg, and was given only a short time to live after conventional treatments failed to work.

Determined to find an alternative solution, Conyngham used his background in machine learning and data analysis to explore AI-driven methods. He combined ChatGPT with AlphaFold, a tool used to study protein structures, to better understand the cancer at a molecular level. Based on this analysis, he helped design a custom mRNA vaccine tailored to the specific mutations found in Rosie’s tumor.

Working alongside researchers from the University of New South Wales, the vaccine was developed and administered in December. The process involved sequencing the tumor’s DNA, converting biological data into digital insights, and identifying the exact genetic issues to target with treatment.

Since receiving the vaccine, Rosie’s condition has improved noticeably, with reports indicating that the tumor has reduced significantly in size. Her energy levels have also increased, surprising Conyngham when she was able to actively chase a rabbit at a park just weeks after treatment.

Although he does not claim it as a complete cure, Conyngham believes the treatment has extended Rosie’s life and improved her overall well-being. The journey was not without challenges, as it took several months to secure ethical approval for the experimental approach.
