Ava Labs COO’s X account suspected as hacked after posting memecoin

Luigi D’Onorio DeMeo, Chief Operating Officer at Ava Labs, confirmed that his X account was hacked after it posted about a Pokémon-themed memecoin and suspicious airdrop links. On August 19, the compromised account shared details about a Solana-based memecoin called Pika (PIKA), styled after Pikachu, in what appeared to be a pump-and-dump scheme.

The posts, now deleted, led many crypto users on X to warn against clicking or following any links. DeMeo revealed that he lost access to his account through a phishing email, which was disguised as a message from X. The email falsely claimed that someone had accessed his account from another country and instructed him to change his password. DeMeo provided his password and 2FA code, allowing the attackers to gain access.
