Coinbase backer Blockchain Capital hunts $700 million for new funds

Blockchain Capital, a prominent investor backing Coinbase, is reportedly working to secure $700 million for two new investment funds, according to Bloomberg.

The San Francisco-headquartered firm plans to launch its seventh early-stage fund alongside its second growth-stage fund, with fundraising expected to conclude within the next five to six months. The report, citing sources familiar with the matter, indicates ongoing efforts to attract capital, though the firm has not issued an official response to media inquiries.

Led by co-founders and managing partners Bart Stephens and Brad Stephens, the firm has previously secured close to $1 billion for crypto-focused investments. Its portfolio includes major industry players such as Circle and Tether.

In 2023, the company raised $580 million across its sixth early-stage fund and a late-stage fund. Its investor base mainly consists of traditional financial institutions, including university endowments, sovereign wealth funds, and pension funds in the U.S.

Currently, Blockchain Capital manages approximately $2 billion in fee-generating assets, with its overall portfolio valued at more than $6 billion, as per Bloomberg.
