Bluesky leans into AI with Attie, an app for building custom feeds

The team behind Bluesky has introduced a new product—this time not a social network, but an AI-powered assistant designed to help users create their own algorithms, build personalized feeds, and eventually develop apps through simple interactions.

At the Atmosphere conference, Chief Innovation Officer Jay Graber and CTO Paul Frazee unveiled the app, named Attie. Initially available to conference attendees for beta testing, the tool is powered by Anthropic’s Claude model and is built on Bluesky’s AT Protocol, enabling an agent-driven social experience.

According to interim CEO Toni Schneider, Attie is a standalone application separate from the core Bluesky platform. While Bluesky has previously introduced features like custom feeds, this marks the first major product developed by Graber’s innovation-focused team.

Attie allows users to generate personalized feeds simply by typing instructions in natural language, similar to interacting with a chatbot. By logging in through the shared AT Protocol ecosystem, the app can understand user preferences and behavior across connected platforms, enabling highly tailored content curation.

Users can also ask the assistant for recommendations, refine their feeds, and shape their experience without needing technical expertise. Over time, Bluesky plans to expand Attie’s capabilities to include “vibe coding,” allowing users to build their own social applications and tools.

The project began after Graber chose to shift her focus from executive responsibilities back to product development. The move reflects her interest in building new technologies rather than managing operations, a direction supported by the company’s leadership.

Graber has emphasized that many current AI systems prioritize platform engagement over user benefit. In contrast, Attie is designed to give control back to users, allowing them to customize algorithms and create software aligned with their needs through an open protocol.

Following this strategic shift, Bluesky also revealed it secured $100 million in funding, ensuring several years of operational runway. This financial backing allows the company to focus on key challenges such as improving privacy controls and developing sustainable monetization strategies.

While some investors in Bluesky have ties to the crypto space, the company clarified that it has no plans to integrate cryptocurrency features. Instead, it is exploring alternative revenue models, including subscriptions and hosting services for decentralized communities.

Schneider compared the long-term vision of the Atmosphere ecosystem to platforms like WordPress, highlighting its open and decentralized nature. The goal is to create a collaborative environment where independent apps and services can coexist, forming a scalable and interconnected digital ecosystem.

Voice Of Osiz

The launch of an AI assistant like Attie by Bluesky marks a significant step toward user-centric and decentralized AI innovation. At Osiz, we see this as a powerful evolution where AI is not just automating tasks but enabling users to design their own digital experiences. The integration of advanced models from Anthropic highlights the growing role of agentic AI in shaping next-generation platforms. By leveraging open protocols, this approach empowers users with greater control over data, algorithms, and application development. It also reflects a broader shift toward no-code and low-code ecosystems driven by AI. While challenges like monetization and privacy remain, the direction is clearly toward more transparent and customizable digital environments. Osiz continues to support businesses in building scalable AI-driven platforms aligned with this future-ready innovation.
