Elon Musk Promises 'True To Homer' AI Version Of Odyssey After Nolan's Release

Shortly after Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey achieved a strong global box office debut, Elon Musk announced that his AI platform, Grok Imagine, is developing its own cinematic adaptation of the legendary Greek epic. The AI-generated feature is expected to premiere before the end of the year.

Sharing the update on X, Musk stated that the upcoming film will remain historically accurate and closely follow Homer's original literary work. "Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer," he wrote.

Alongside the announcement, Musk posted a three-minute AI-generated preview featuring a scene between Odysseus and the nymph Calypso. The teaser offers an early look at what he describes as a full-length AI-produced film inspired by the ancient epic.

Prior to revealing the project, Musk responded positively to a social media suggestion proposing a $100 million adaptation directed by Mel Gibson. The idea called for historically authentic ships, armor, weapons, and costumes, with dialogue taken directly from Homer's text and performed in Homeric Greek. Musk replied, "I'm down," signaling his support for the concept.

The announcement also follows Musk's ongoing criticism of Christopher Nolan's interpretation of The Odyssey. Earlier this month, he argued that the filmmaker had strayed from the original source material and expressed dissatisfaction with several creative decisions, including aspects of the film's casting.

Despite the criticism, Nolan's adaptation has enjoyed a remarkable commercial debut. According to Comscore Movies, the film generated more than $264.06 million worldwide during its opening weekend, making it one of the year's highest-grossing box office launches.
