India Launches Bids for AI Infrastructure Providers with ₹10,372 Crore Budget

Under the Rs 10,372-crore India AI mission, which was approved by the cabinet in March of this year, the government has invited bids for the empanelment of entities for providing artificial intelligence services on cloud under the Rs 10,372-crore India AI mission. High-speed AI infrastructure like graphics processing units (GPUs), accelerators, tensor processing units (TPUs), storage, and other components will need to be made available to academia, startups, researchers, and the government by the empaneled agencies, such as cloud service providers and data centers.

Over 10,000 GPUs of supercomputing capacity will be made available to various stakeholders as part of the IndiaAI Mission for the purpose of developing an AI ecosystem.

In a social media post, Meity's Additional Secretary Abhishek Singh stated, "With an objective to empanel service providers for making this possible, MeitY has issued a RFE (request for empanelment)."Because GPU-based servers can process data at a faster rate than CPU-based servers, there has been an increase in demand due to the rapid development of AI around the world.

It is estimated that India has a rate of access to GPU-based cloud services that is twice as high as the rate in countries with a large number of GPUs.
Empaneled agencies will be responsible for providing high-performance computing, network, and storage services that are necessary for implementing the activities, as stated in the bid document released by the Ministry of Electronics and IT (Meity).
