Is Character AI venturing into word-based games? Here’s what the report suggests

Character AI, an advanced artificial intelligence platform, is reportedly experimenting with a feature that integrates word-based games into its offerings. According to a recent report by TechCrunch, the platform has introduced two games, Speakeasy and War of Words, to a select group of users, including premium c.ai+ subscribers and a limited number of free users.

Unlike the platform’s existing games, which focus on interactive storytelling and role-playing with specific AI characters, these new games allow users to challenge any character of their choice, according to the publication.

A new controller icon, integrated into the chatbot’s interface, is said to make these games accessible on both desktop and mobile platforms seamlessly.

The game Speakeasy reportedly involves prompting the chosen AI character to say a specific word without using five related terms. For instance, players might attempt to make Albert Einstein say “bedroom” while avoiding words like “bed,” “room,” “sleep,” “dream,” and “night.” Each round generates new target and restricted words, ensuring a unique experience every time.

In War of Words, users engage in a strategic five-round competition against an AI character. A virtual referee determines the winner based on gameplay performance, requiring users to adapt their strategies depending on the opponent, thereby adding complexity and replay value.

A spokesperson for Character AI shared insights into the development, explaining, “As an AI entertainment company, we aim to make the Character AI experience more enjoyable and engaging. This feature allows users to play games with their favorite characters while preserving the immersive experience they love.”

Although still in the testing phase, TechCrunch noted that this feature aims to enhance audience engagement. However, the platform has yet to confirm its broader rollout.
