South Korea’s Biggest Bank Taps JPMorgan Blockchain for Trade Payments

Kinexys, JPMorgan's blockchain division previously known as Onyx, provides institutional payment solutions, tokenization services, and digital asset settlement infrastructure for enterprise clients.

Since its introduction, the platform has facilitated transactions exceeding $4 trillion, while processing more than $7 billion in daily payment volume, highlighting its growing role in institutional finance.

According to local reports, the new service will initially enable U.S. dollar remittances across ten countries, including South Korea, the United States, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, India, Thailand, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and South Africa. The offering will be available through KB Kookmin Bank's domestic branches as well as its Singapore office.

The rollout follows KB Kookmin Bank's recent selection for a government-backed deposit token payment initiative, led by South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT together with the Korea Internet & Security Agency.

Industry observers will now be watching whether additional Korean financial institutions adopt Kinexys, as broader participation could accelerate the expansion of tokenized deposit solutions beyond JPMorgan's existing customer network.
