Manus AI: China's new AI agent can plan your Japan trip and offer analysis of stocks. 10-point explainer
Weeks after Chinese AI chatbot DeepSeek sparked a frenzy with its DeepSeek-R1 model, a new Chinese artificial intelligence agent, Manus, has quickly piqued the AI community's interest with its capacity to handle challenging real-world tasks. Manus, like DeepSeek, is currently attracting the interest of people throughout the world. Some sources have already referred to it as 'yet another DeepSeek moment' for China.
The demo video was released on X Wednesday night, and by Thursday afternoon, it had received over 200,000 views. Many individuals were seen requesting invitation codes to test out the AI agent. Just weeks ago, there was a similar hype surrounding DeepSeek R1—DeepSeek AI's model—which was supposedly produced at a quarter of the cost of leading models from OpenAI, Meta and Google.
According to media reports, Manus is an advanced AI bot capable of thinking, planning, and carrying out real-world tasks on its own. It can generate an itinerary for a trip to Japan, provide an in-depth study of stocks, create interactive coursework for school teachers, analyze various insurance policies, and so on with a single query.
Manus, unlike ordinary AI chatbots, completes duties in full. For example, when asked to write a report on climate change, it will conduct its own research, draft the report, draw charts, and build a thorough final document without further instructions.
Manus, created by a low-profile team and funded by Chinese investors and developers, is now available as an invitation-only web preview. A demonstration video on its website, manus.im, shows how to design a personalized website step by step.
Manus, dubbed the world's first genuinely general AI agent, can also exceed OpenAI's DeepResearch on the GAIA benchmark, which is a third-party assessment of general AI assistant performance.
According to its creators, Manus AI was built to do complicated tasks independently across a variety of industries. Its main advantages are autonomous operations and asynchronous cloud-based functionality, which allows users to assign tasks and detach their devices.
China has been at the forefront of major AI advancements in 2025. Despite minimal information about its company structure, personnel, and underlying models, Manus has sparked widespread attention.
Since Manus appeared on the internet, multiple people have shared videos of its jaw-dropping demonstrations. One of the examples shows the AI agent operating 50 separate screens at once. The AI bot may be seen simultaneously using numerous web platforms such as X, Telegram, and others, demonstrating an incredible level of automation.
How can you use Manus AI?
It's not hard to get started with this new AI. As with any other AI chatbot, you can start with a prompt. For example, if you want to plan a 7-day trip to Bali within a certain budget, Manus will research and combine real-time data to produce an organized schedule. Manu AI can also create files, actively search the web, interact with web pages, take screenshots, and save browsing history for later reference.
