Pokemon Fan Art Turns Cubone Into a Demon Slayer
An artist has created an intriguing mash-up of Demon Slayer and Pokemon, turning Cubone into a demon slayer itself. The Pokemon art comes with a backstory appropriate for the popular anime while staying true to Cubone's roots as a Pokemon.
While Pokemon and Demon Slayer have little in common as shows, the two series have seen crossovers before courtesy of their fans. Pokemon and Demon Slayer have crossed over, turning Pokemon into demon slayers or giving the anime's slayers like Tanjiro a Pokemon team. The creative artworks allow fans to imagine something that will likely never exist as an official creation, but that's all part of the fun.
Now, an artist going by abz-art has shared their version of Cubone as a demon slayer. Cubone itself has seen some reworkings, with cracks forming in the iconic skull it wears. The bone it uses to strike its enemies has grown tremendously and gained spikes and orange markings. Of course, the art wouldn't be complete if Cubone wasn't suited up for the part, and the Pokemon is wearing a version of the iconic haori coats the demon slayers wear in addition to the basic underlying uniform.
Cubone's Backstory as a Demon Slayer
In addition to creating the art, the artist has shared a small backstory for how Cubone became a demon slayer. As the tear in its eye hints at, the Pokemon has seen tragedy, as Cubone was motivated to become a demon slayer to avenge its mother, who was killed by demons. This matches up nicely with Cubone's origin story in the Pokemon games, as the skull it wears is that of its deceased mother.
Cubone uses a fighting style called Earth Breathing, a play on the other Breathing fighting styles the demon slayers use, like Tanjiro's Water Breathing. Pokemon fans have been quite enthusiastic about the piece, leaving comments on the artist's Reddit post and Instagram account. Some joked about how the Pokemon should have a "Generational Trauma-Breathing" fighting style, or use a Crying Technique, referring to its sorrow over losing its mother. However, Earth Breathing is more in keeping with its Ground typing.
As Pokemon and Demon Slayer mash-ups seem to be a popular theme for fanart, it will be interesting to see what the fanbase comes up with next. With the final arc to be presented in an upcoming Demon Slayer movie trilogy, chances are enthusiasts will see an increase in crossovers from artistic fans then, if not earlier.
