Popcat, Mog Coin, Gigachad: Top Meme Coins with Massive Price Growth
Despite being criticized criticised as risky and speculative investments and often created as a joke, meme coins have seen their popularity explode this year, fueled by their growing online communities.
Although Dogecoin and Shiba Inu remain major players in terms of market cap, other meme coins have seen much bigger price gains year-to-date.
According to data presented by AltIndex.com, Popcat is the best-performing meme coin in 2024 with a massive 6,300% year-to-date price growth, followed by Mog Coin, Gigachad, dogwifhat, and Turbo. Here is the list of other best-performing meme coins.
New Meme Coins Take the Lead
Over the past years, the crypto space has seen more than a few examples of meme coins ballooning in value, gaining multibillion-dollar market caps, and getting celebrity endorsements. That didn’t change in 2024, with new names entering the market, making waves, and bringing impressive gains to their investors.
Although many meme coins saw impressive price gains year-to-date, these stand out as the best performers in 2024.
According to AltIndex.com analysis, based on CoinMarketCap data, Popcat is the most successful meme coin of the year, with almost a 6,300% price growth in the past nine months.
Popcat’s impressive performance is part of a broader trend where meme coins, especially those on the Solana network, are gaining popularity for their fast transaction speeds and lower fees than other networks like Ethereum.
Mog Coin ranked as the second-best performer in the meme coin space with just as impressive 2,508% nine-month price growth. Gigachad, dogfight, and Turbo follow, with 1,228%, 1,167%, and 1,063% gains year-to-date, respectively.
All other major meme coins saw much smaller gains. For instance, the price of Osaka Protocol and Pepe jumped by more than 500%, or 12 times less than Popcat’s gain. Sundog and Book of Meme saw their prices surge by more than 400%, while Floki and Pepe Coin brought 250% and 224% returns to their investors.
Statistics show meme coins Brett and Simon’s Cat jumped by roughly 170% in value, which is still much more than the gains of Dogecoin and Shiba Inu, the oldest coins in the meme space.
Dogecoin’s price increased by only 9.2% year-to-date, while Shiba Inu grew 3.5 times more than that, or 31%. Bonk, Dogs, Memecoin, and Dog (Runes) were on the other side of the list as the only losers on the top 20 list.
14 Out of 20 Largest Meme Coins Saw Triple and Four-Digit Gains
Meme coin’s impressive performance in 2024 is best reflected by the share of the largest coins which saw triple and four-digit price gains.
The CoinMarketCap data show that 14 out of the 20 largest meme coins by market cap saw their prices skyrocket by several hundred and even several thousand percent in the past nine months. Although they remain highly volatile and speculative and thrive mainly on community engagement and social media trends, their nine-month gains are something not many cryptos have accomplished.
