Space Marine 2 Gets Another Exciting Sales Update
A new update on the commercial performance of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 shows that the game is one of the hottest new titles in all of Europe at the moment. The update comes in less than two weeks after the game launched on September 9, 2024, highlighting the excitement and anticipation surrounding Space Marine 2.
With more than a decade passing between the release of the original Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine and its sequel, fans were rightfully concerned that the new game might not be up to the previous game's standard. After all, development tasks were in the hands of a different studio, Saber Interactive, rather than the original developer, Relic Entertainment. Thankfully, the worries seemed to be unfounded, as Space Marine 2 reviews praised the game as a fitting tribute to the venerated franchise and a worthy successor to the original.
That quality and critical praise has been reflected in the game's sales. Even just after release, Saber Interactive CEO Tim Willits said that Space Marine 2 sales were the fastest of any game they'd ever worked on. Now, according to a Tweet from GamesIndustry.biz Editor Christopher Dring, Space Marine 2 could well be one of the biggest new titles of the year in Europe, going by recent sales data.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Sales Could Make It The Second-Biggest New Game in Europe
According to Dring, European and UK sales figures tracked by the data company Games Sales Data placed Space Marine 2 just behind sales for Helldivers 2, the cooperative multiplayer shooter developed by Arrowhead Game Studios and published by Sony. Given that Helldivers 2 has already sold more than 12 million copies, Space Marine 2 could be the second-fastest selling new game in Europe, barely two weeks after it launched. The numbers also put it ahead of other major 2024 titles like Dragon's Dogma 2, Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, Star Wars Outlaws, and The Last of Us 2 Remastered.
Dring did mention some caveats, though, as the figures from Game Sales Data do not necessarily give a comprehensive picture of the publishing environment in the UK. Major titles from smaller publishers aren't always tracked. One case in point: Game Sales Data does not track the sales of Black Myth: Wukong, which stunned commentators and the public by moving more than 10 million copies in three days, mostly out of China. Adding European sales numbers could boost Wukong, or even other virally popular games like Palworld, even higher than Space Marine 2 once fuller figures are obtained and analyzed.
