SpaceX secures option to buy AI startup Cursor for $60bn or partner for $10bn

SpaceX has secured a strategic option to either acquire AI coding startup Cursor for $60 billion later this year or enter into a $10 billion partnership, as it expands its presence in the fast-growing AI developer tools market.

Cursor has emerged as a strong player in Silicon Valley, alongside companies like OpenAI and Anthropic, attracting developers with AI-powered tools that automate coding tasks—an area where AI has already demonstrated clear commercial success.

Colossus, located in Memphis, is described by xAI as one of the largest AI training clusters globally, reflecting the company’s heavy investment in AI infrastructure.

This development comes as SpaceX prepares for a potential public listing, targeting a valuation near $1.75 trillion and aiming to raise around $75 billion—figures that could make it one of the largest IPOs ever.
