Tron network exceeds Ethereum revenue over the past 90 days

Over the past 90 days, Tron’s earnings have surpassed those of the Ethereum network, accumulating around $435 million in fees compared to Ethereum’s $364 million, as per Token Terminal data.

Tron founder Justin Sun emphasized the network’s strong 30-day revenue growth, noting that Tron’s protocol revenue outpaced Ethereum’s by 50%. Sun projected that if this growth continues, Tron’s annual revenue could exceed $2 billion, potentially making it the most profitable blockchain globally.

USDT transactions on Tron reached one-third of Visa’s settlement volume for Q2 2024, totaling $1.25 trillion on the network.

Tron: The future hub for stablecoin transactions?

Sun disclosed that Tron plans to launch a gasless stablecoin in July 2024, initially for Tron and Ethereum, with future expansion to other Ethereum Virtual Machine networks. This feature would enable fee-free stablecoin transfers for small payments, corporate settlements, and cross-border remittances, enhancing the utility of these transactions.

In 2024, Tron also ranked as the second-largest blockchain for stablecoin transfers by value, following only Solana.

Challenges ahead

Despite these achievements, Tron faces some hurdles. In June 2024, its total value locked (TVL) dropped to a six-month low of $7.6 billion, as reported by DefiLlama. TVL saw a slight recovery in July, reaching $8.7 billion, but has since fallen back to around $7.6 billion, where it remains.

Interestingly, this decrease in TVL coincided with a 9.5% increase in TRX’s price in June 2024.
