World of Warcraft Classic Activates Joyous Journeys Experience Bonus

World of Warcraft has reintroduced the Joyous Journeys 50% experience buff for Cataclysm Classic. While this XP boost is designed to help players gear up for the upcoming Rage of the Firelands patch, there’s no indication that it will be disabled once the update is live.

Currently, World of Warcraft Classic’s progression realms are speeding through Cataclysm at an accelerated pace. As mentioned prior to the Classic expansion's release, World of Warcraft plans to launch the final Cataclysm patch a little over six months after its start in May 2024. Rage of the Firelands, the second major patch and third raid phase of Cataclysm, is slated to launch before the end of October.

In anticipation of this, World of Warcraft Classic has introduced the Joyous Journeys buff, giving players a 50% passive boost to all experience gains in Cataclysm Classic. This bonus is active from character creation and remains available through the level cap of 85. Players can toggle the buff on or off at any time by visiting innkeepers in capital cities or Dalaran.

Unlike previous iterations of Joyous Journeys, Blizzard has not specified an end date for this particular boost. The buff could potentially expire with the arrival of the Rage of the Firelands update, but it’s equally possible it will persist throughout the remainder of Cataclysm Classic. In any case, players should have ample time to take advantage of the 50% XP boost.

Although there is no official release date for the Rage of the Firelands content update, speculation points to its arrival in the final week of October, possibly on the 29th or 31st. Typically, World of Warcraft announces patch release dates about two weeks in advance, as it recently did with the game’s 20th anniversary update scheduled for October 22. If this pattern holds, Blizzard might confirm the Firelands update around October 15. Until then, players can prepare by completing daily quests from the Regrowth and the Molten Front, which are already available.

The third and final major Cataclysm patch, Hour of Twilight, is expected to launch in January 2025. What happens next for the Classic servers remains uncertain, and fans will have to wait to see if World of Warcraft Classic will progress into the Mists of Pandaria expansion after Cataclysm concludes.
